About the Whale Sharks of Qatar
With the largest aggregations of whale sharks on the planet right here in Qatar, you now have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness this magical phenomenon right in front of your eyes. Watch these majestic yet gentle creatures from your luxury catamaran and marvel as they swim right under your feet.
Until now, the area which hosts the whale sharks has been closed to the public, so there is still very little known about them. However, there are hundreds of Whale Sharks that annually congregate in the Whale Shark viewing location off the northeast coast of Qatar in the months from April to September.
Discover Qatar’s responsible approach to interacting with the whale sharks ensures there’s no disturbance to their natural habitat. Whether you’re a family or a group of friends, an extremely unique experience awaits you at sea, surrounded by the biggest fish in the ocean.
The whale shark viewing region attracts the largest aggregations of these underwater giants because of its unique ecosystem. With average seawater temperatures hovering around 27 degrees during the summer season and an abundance of fish eggs serving as their primary food source, the Arabian Gulf becomes an ideal breeding location.
